Toyota launched a new kind of car in North America ten years ago. The Prius, an affordable car with a hybrid gas/electric power train. In the decade that followed, the Prius has made an indelible mark on the automotive industry. The car with its signature wedge shape proved to be an agent of change, and a start-up for innovative ideas. Toyota Sells 1 Million Hybrids in Japan


Toyota has sold One Million Prius Hybrids in Japan alone. This statistic came in last week, after the global auto maker posted a $2.2 Billion dollar profit for their second quarter.

Much of it was due to a rebounding auto market in the United States. A fall in loan defaults and rising sales produced buoyant numbers at Toyota's financial services arm, which accounted for 85 percent of its total North American operating profit.
After taking a hit on U.S. consumers' view of the brand with the recalls, there is more good news for Toyota.
