It's one thing for an automaker to show off a performance-tuned variant of a popular model at the SEMA Show. It's an entirely different thing when they show off a performance-tuned model based on an already limited-edition variant of that model. How do we know this? Because that's exactly what Toyota has done with a new racing truck based on the upcoming 2012 Toyota Tacoma TRD T/X Baja Edition.
Known as the Long Beach Racers Tacoma, the performance-tuned truck was developed by Toyota and a wide range of aftermarket parts specialists. These include: Long Beach Racers, Bilstein Shocks, BF Goodrich Tires, TRD Wheels and brakes, Hella Lights, Defined Engineering, PCI Race Radios, Mastercraft Safety Equipment, Turn14 Distribution, Nitro Gear, Toyota Motorsports Technical Center, CarbonFiber.com, K&N, MBRP Exhaust, CMI composite skidplates, Racer.com, Wahoo's, Blue C, Skull Candy, Spin Imaging, Red Car Brewery.
The only list longer than the various partners that developed the Long Beach Racers Tacoma, however, is the list of upgrades that they bestowed upon it. Specifically, the new Tacoma racing truck features a new roll cage; racing shocks; 35" BFGoodrich Project Tires on 16" TRD Baja Series wheels; custom mounted headlights in place of its exterior mirrors; carbon fiber skid plates; spring under kit; exhaust system; air filter; a 50-gallon fuel cell, brake kit; race radio and intercom systems; racing seats and harnesses; window nets...And to top it all off - a new TX Baja Series graphics paint job.
With so much effort put into the Long Beach Racers Tacoma, many are asking how the vehicle will be used after the 2011 SEMA Show, and rightfully so. Currently, Toyota is planning to enter the truck into the 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, with a number of other appearances at conventions and races to follow.
Unfortunately, the Long Beach Racers Tacoma is not destined for production. The 2012 Toyota Tacoma TRD T/X Baja Edition, on the other hand, is; and DCH Toyota of Oxnard, invites you to stay tuned for more details surrounding its arrival, coming soon.
