The Toyota Prius is currently the best selling hybrid-engine vehicle in the US, and for very good reason. With an EPA-estimated 51 mpg city/48 mpg highway rating, the Toyota Prius is the go to car for greater Oxnard, CA area drivers who want to cut down on their gas bill. And don't expect the demand for the Prius to subside any time soon. Most likely, the demand will continue to rise alongside with gas prices.

Toyota is keeping that in mind and planning for the expected demand increase for the Prius in the United States. Specifically, they're thinking about moving production of the hybrid to one of its American factories by the year 2015. Why such a long wait? Toyota plans to align the production move with the launch of the 4th-generation Prius, which is likely to be due out around that same time.

Another large consideration for the wait is that Toyota must find the proper parts suppliers within the US to help them build a Prius that's every bit as high quality as the one's assembled in Japan. This means finding companies that can supply them with inverters, electric motors and batteries - things that the Japanese automaker doesn't typically have to consider when building other models here.
